This experiment was conducted in 2016 at the Poza-e-Ishan
Research Farm, Baghlan Province, Afghanistan, with the objective of
evaluating the performance and yield components of different
chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) genotypes and investigating the
relationships between grain yield and its associated components.
The experimental area covered 384 m² and was arranged in a
Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications
and a total of 40 plots. Each plot measured 4 m in length and 2.4 m
in width, with a total area of 9.6 m². Row spacing was maintained at
40 cm, plant spacing at 15 cm, and six rows were planted in each
plot. The results revealed significant variation among the tested
genotypes. The highest stem strength (lodging resistance) was
recorded in genotype FLIP06-26C with a mean value of 80.25%,
whereas the lowest stem strength was observed in genotype
FLIP93-53C (Madad) with a mean value of 58.75%. The tallest plants
were obtained from genotype FLIP05-19C, with a mean height of
69.75 cm, while the shortest plants were recorded for genotype
FLIP06-28C, with a mean height of 51.75 cm. Genotype FLIP05-19C
also produced the highest number of pods per plant (41.25),
whereas the lowest number of pods per plant (31) was observed in
genotype FLIP93-53C (Madad).
